Y.A.M. 2012 - Jonkonnu

March is Youth Art Month!  We are very fortunate to have a fabulous art teacher here at APS, Mrs. Ramona Hall.  She goes above and beyond with our students and it shows in the effort that they put in to their work.  Our theme this year was Jonkonnu, a Jamaican festival.  The students learned about Jamaica through various activities.  Mrs. Hall planned a huge parade to conclude our Jonkonnu studies and as usual, it was awesome!

The boys and girls made screen masks, during art class, to carry in the parade.  We made pitchy patchy costumes to wear as well.

 The first grade teachers decorated their hallway in various Jamaican scenes.

There were all types of costumes to represent the various parts and characters of the Jonkonnu Festival.

 Our p.e. teacher, counselor, and music teacher are always great sports especially when costumes are involved.  Here, Miss Barkley, Mrs. Brothers, and Miss Rogers are all decked out in their Jonkonnu gear.

 Angel Ramirez and Dana Sanders portrayed the King and Queen.  On the bulletin board behind them, you can see some of the wonderful collages my students completed with Mrs. Hall.

 The two rows of artwork in this picture are also masterpieces created by my students with Mrs. Hall.

 My friend and neighbor teacher, Miss Jimmerson, played the part of Miss Jamaica.  She received many compliments from students and teachers alike.  Rightfully so, she made a beautiful Miss Jamaica.
